rockin’ bento

While working on a post featuring Hawai’i Bento Box artist, Susan Yuen, I came across these très cool bento of Ozzy Ozbourne and Kiss which I just had to share. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a more creative use of rice, nori and bologna ☺. Enjoy!

fun with fondant: wake up little sushi ☺

Happy Columbus Day!

Hope you’ve been having a nice holiday weekend.

Just had to share this two-part video of TLC’s Fabulous Cakes episode featuring boutique bakery, Caked Las Vegas. Owner Carolyn Portuondo, a graduate of Punahou School in Hawai’i, gave up a career in Medicine to follow her passion for baking. Her all-cake sushi boat is simply a-m-a-z-i-n-g. Sit back, relax, sip your favorite beverage, and watch a great cake artist at work:

*This post has been brought to you by Fondant, a sweet, creamy sugar paste used in candies and icings. In the last 10 years, rolled fondant has become wildly popular among pastry chefs in the U.S. because of its versatility, pliability, and ease of dyeing. Think of it as bakers’ playdough.

Special thanks to my half-sister, Sylvia, for sharing the links!

le petit déjeuner: paintings by carol gillott

Bonjour mon amis!

To get your week off to a sweet start, here are some watercolor paintings by New York-based artist Carol Gillott. You may know her from her beautiful blog, Paris Breakfast. She travels to Paris several times a year to shoot photographs and get fresh inspiration for her paintings. A very nice job, indeed, to dream up Parisian fantasies every day!

"Ladurée Rose Framboise Cupcakes"

Carol has some lovely original watercolors for sale featuring delicious morning and tea time treats. Check out her Etsy Shop, where you’ll find "Eiffel Tower of Macarons" and "Ladurée Rose Framboise Cupcakes," or see the full line at her flickr photostream. These are 9" x 11" and fit nicely in a 12" x 16" frame.

Couldn’t resist sharing several of her wonderful Paris facades. You can inquire about prices and availability through her website. Enjoy!

         *This one especially for Candice!

Très charmant, non?

"Lavendar Birthday Tray" for sale at PetitPlat Etsy Shop.

Ooh-la-la!

I’m kissing my fingertips again — happens every time I see something just too beautiful to eat.

Just as well, because Stéphanie Kilgast’s miniature sculptures are made from polymer clay. How small are they? Check it:

Let us feast with our eyes! Mmmmmmmm (don’t you love those tiny macarons?).
