march menu madness

So, I turned the page on my calendar and panicked.

It’s March! Egads, I need a new menu!

Last month, I drowned everybody in chocolate. What could I possibly serve them now?

Let’s see. Easter’s coming. I need to make a fresh start.

Aha! Eggs! That’s it. Why don’t I do Egg Month?

        Somebody was a little skeptical.

I mean, can one really do eggs without doing chickens? No, the chickens would egg me. And the eggs would toss me out of the hen house. Better do both.

I can start with eggs. Then do chickens. No, chickens, then eggs. I want to go first. No, me! Me first!

STOP ALL THAT SQUAWKING!

We do not have time, here at this establishment of serious haute cuisine, to squawk and squabble over pecking order. We’ll try our best not to ruffle any feathers during this mad month — is it winter? is it spring? is it hot? is it cold? chicken or the egg?

Dilemmas, dilemmas.

If you’re feeling a little cooped up this month, I hope you’ll come here to roost.

Right now, here’s something to crow about:

LAST NIGHT I DREAMED OF CHICKENS
by Jack Prelutsky

Last night I dreamed of chickens,
there were chickens everywhere,
they were standing on my stomach,
they were nesting in my hair,
they were pecking at my pillow,
they were hopping on my head,
they were ruffling up their feathers,
as they raced about my bed.

They were on the chairs and tables,
they were on the chandeliers,
they were roosting in the corners,
they were clucking in my ears,
there were chickens, chickens, chickens
for as far as I could see . . .
when I woke today, I noticed
there were eggs on top of me.

Hope to see you for the rest of Egg Chicken Month. Chicken Egg Month. Egg Egg Month. Chicken Chicken Month. Month Egg Chicken. Egg Month Chicken Egg Chicken. Poop Coop Month. Somebody, stop me . . .

“I’m frightened of eggs, worse than frightened, they revolt me. That white round thing without any holes have you ever seen anything more revolting than an egg yolk breaking and spilling its yellow liquid? Blood is jolly, red. But egg yolk is yellow, revolting. I’ve never tasted it.”  ~ Alfred Hitchcock

  1. LOL. You are too funny, jama. And you managed to get through this whole hilarious post without saying eggs-actly once. I’m proud of you.
I love eggs! My favorite are poached eggs on toast. Or maybe a fried egg sandwich. Or scrambled with cheese. Or hard-boiled in a leafy green salad. Or possibly frittatas. I’m as bad as your chickens…

  2. This icon works because it contains both a chicken AND eggs. If you ever dared to feature one over the other . . . I can see why you’re an owl.

  3. I have my great-grandmother’s recipe for egg custard. And ooh – there’s flan! And a Spanish tortilla, which is made of potato, onion, olive oil and egg (MMMMMM!)
    Oh, how I love eggs.

  4. Looks like Hitchcock had issues.
The man who filmed Norman Bates living with a corpse couldn’t stomach eggs?? But they’re so cute!
I’m afraid of practically everything. But not eggs.

  5. Happy ChickenEggChicken Dare-to-be-Different Month!! I’m going to bed because I’m eggshausted from playing that Egg Drop Game until I got an Incredible score, asking the Not-so-All-Knowing egg questions that seemed to crack him up, and squawking in horror at the movie. This is going to be a fun month 😀

  6. Yum, I love eggs. Though I felt a little nauseated after Hitchcock’s quote. I will say over-easy eggs gross me out, so maybe a spoiler alert on days you’re featuring anything with raw, runny yolks would be good:>)
Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

  7. The egg drop game drove me crazy! I couldn’t get more than 32 or so.
I’m feeling a little apprehensive about posting chicken recipes. I enjoy their antics, and it would seem cruel to eat them.
Eggs, on the other hand, are pretty passive, and won’t mind.

  8. Yup, I splatted a lot of eggs in that game, too 🙂
If posting chicken recipes doesn’t sit well with you, you could post about their antics but leave the recipes, and hence the eating, to the more passive eggs. I mean, there are the basic poached, fried, omelettes, for starters; pavlovas and meringues; lots of recipes that incorporate huge numbers of eggs, like pound cake, quiches, flans; Easter eggs, emu eggs. All kinds of things you could post about and I bet nobody would even notice that you didn’t have to kill a single chicken in the process 🙂
