Well, he’s visiting alphabet soup next week with his creator, Jackie Urbanovic!!

Have you met Max? If you’ve read Duck at the Door (HarperCollins, 2007), you know he’s quite the cook. He discovered his culinary talents one winter when he decided NOT to fly south with his flock, and nice Irene (whose house is full of animals), took him in.
Well, Max (with Jackie’s help), has cooked up a new adventure, just released January 8th, and it’s called — *drum roll* — DUCK SOUP! Why is there a feather floating in the pot? You know, sometimes things are never as they seem.
DUCK SOUP by Jackie Urbanovic
(HarperCollins, 2008), ages 4-8, 32 pp.
So keep your eyes, potatoes, and carrots peeled for Jackie and Max, as they help us wrap up Soup Month. Don’t be surprised if there’s some pretty quazy cooking!
That looks adorable. Aduckable?

I’ve told you I’m not a person who likes to be in the kitchen, but lo and behold, your posts have driven me to check out soup cookbooks from the library.
Ah, but wait, I’m not heading for the kitchen yet. Instead I’m going back to the library for picture books about soup. Nourishing in a different way.
Your posts are always so fun!

Max wants to know if Jane liked to eat duck (gulp).

I’m sure she ate duck. She for sure ate goose, because she wrote about it in a letter once. It was customary to eat it on a Saint’s day in the fall, and it was supposed to bring you wealth throughout the coming year. (Might be Michaelmas, but it might be a different day – I’ll have to look it up.)

Max is relieved Jane won’t be here next week, licking her lips.
